I like to walk through a dream–just bring it into the light of day, by speaking it to a circle of people and letting the dream materialize and take us over. All of a sudden, we see what we never saw asleep. We question and converse, and we throw ourselves out of a pre-determined script into an open narrative–one of the great purposes of somatic psychotherapy.
I was teaching such a class a month ago at California Institute of Integral Studies–on "Jung, Dream and the Body", and I will keep teaching such a class now and again, because we need to access that underground, symbolic river from which we draw these pails of thought.
The symbolic mind is not just a clever ego function that makes us smarter than our dog. The embodied symbols that we walk through consciously as dreams have power to change everything.
